All your possessions protected
At Ask Acorn, we know that whether you rent or own your home, what it contains makes it unique. Since virtually everything you own is in your house, a fire or other disaster could have unimaginable consequences.
But it doesn’t take a catastrophe to cause big problems. Dropping a laptop on a hard floor, or an overflowing bath can make a big dent in your household budget. That’s why having enough contents insurance to cover replacing everything is so sensible.
Have you more than you think?
Most people underestimate the value of the possessions they own. Try to calculate the cost of replacing everything in your home – from cushions and throws, to TVs, toys, computers, games consoles, furniture and everything else. It quickly adds up.
What does contents insurance cover?
Contents insurance doesn’t just cover the cost of replacing your possessions. It can also pay towards unavoidable costs like locksmiths, and cover the theft of cash too.
Policies tend to fall into two categories:
- New for old insurance covers the cost of purchasing new items to replace older ones.
- Indemnity cover pays the current value of the items being replaced. So it takes into account how their value will have declined, and only pays a percentage of their original cost.
Optional extras
There are a number of optional extras can be added to your contents insurance. These extend it to cover additional mishaps at home and when you’re out and about:
- Accidental damage insurance: an accidental damage claim that could impact you financially can easily occur – for example, spilling paint on a carpet or knocking over a TV. Accidental damage insurance can cover the cost of putting everything right. Terms and conditions apply.
- Personal belongings cover: bags, phones, jewellery, laptops and so many other things can be damaged, lost or stolen when you’re away from home. Personal belongings cover can cover the cost of their replacement.
